From the inner layers of the black ash tree I construct open weave grids of various sizes and dimensions. The trees’ struggle for sunlight and growth are revealed in the knots and figured grain of these layers.
The plain weave of a woven grid is probably the oldest form of weaving. Utilized world wide for drying herbs, fruits, tobacco and countless other things , the form is elemental and familiar.
In my choice of material, color, and design I strive to create pieces that are visually calming and rhythmically engaging.
